The Forum
The Forum is where the members of the Agora meet. We want to be a community that knows each other and makes new music together.
On our YouTube channel
The channel shows what happens on the Agora, in seven series. Some we make; others members send us. The Agora of New Music on YouTube (opens in a new tab)
Agora Conversations
Made by the Agora
Recordings of the online meetings proposed here in the Forum. A composer or performer proposes a topic, others join, and they talk.
For example A performer asks “When is a notation too precise?”; two composers and a cellist join and talk it through.
You can propose a topic yourself.
Extended Techniques Glossary
Members send these
A performer shows one extended technique on their instrument in about thirty seconds. Each video is added to that technique on the Techniques page, so composers can hear it and see how it is played.
For example A flautist plays whistle tones, first alone, then inside a short phrase.
Played through the Agora
Members send these
Performances of works that found their performer through the Agora. The video also appears on the work’s page and on both profiles.
For example A cellist finds a solo piece on the Agora, asks the composer for the score, and plays it in a concert.
Made together
Members send these
Pieces written together in the Sound Atelier, and works commissioned through the Agora, once they are performed.
For example Four composers in four cities build a piece round by round in the Sound Atelier, and an ensemble plays it.
Wanted, in 30 seconds
Made by the Agora
A performer’s wanted notice as a 30-second vertical video, so that composers who see it can answer the notice on the Agora. Only notices whose performer allowed it.
For example A clarinettist in Berlin is looking for a solo piece of 5–8 minutes with electronics.
Three questions
Members send these
A member films themselves answering three questions: What are you working on? What are you looking for on the Agora? What was the last sound that surprised you? The video goes on their profile.
For example A composer in Seoul answers in two minutes, filmed on a phone.
First pages
Made by the Agora
A recording of a new work, heard with the first pages of its score. It stops where the score preview on the Agora stops; the rest of the score is with the composer.
For example A string trio’s recording with the opening pages; a performer who likes it asks the composer for the full score.
